Hi! We're Jenny, Josh, & Alice.

We met 8 years ago, just 5 weeks after Jenny moved to Portland from NYC. Our first date was bar trivia at Brian Boru’s (rip) and it started our long love of games, trivia, and friendly competition. You can often find us playing cards at Frank's on our weekly Wednesday date nights, or at MSMT musicals in the summertime.
Neither of us had ever worked a retail job or knew anything formal about design, refurbishment, or vintage/antiques before we started j.plum in 2021. Jenny's background is in education (a third grade teacher for 9 years) and Josh has his masters in music composition and worked in technology for 20+ years. After Covid, Jenny took a break from teaching and fell in love with refurbishing furniture (friends called it paint therapy). We share a curiosity and love for old things, especially the stories they tell, and we enjoy traveling all over in search of cool things with unique histories.
Our little bean, Alice, was just 4 months old when we opened our pop-up store in Sebago. She has grown up side by side with J.Plum, and she is the inspiration and driving force behind our family business. Now a silly, strong-willed, and curious 3yo, Alice loves going on treasure hunt adventures with us, and we feel so lucky that the three of us get to build this business together. Not having professional training, we build the shop based on a simple premise: we fill it with things we love, use ourselves, and would recommend to friends.
While we spend so much care curating our shop, we first and foremost consider j.plum home a community place where PEOPLE OF ALL KINDS ARE WELCOME and KINDNESS IS A MUST. We do what we do out of love, and we hope you feel that as soon as you visit!
